On 17 September 2026, the Kingdom of Tonga marked the 41st birthday of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Tupoutoʻa ʻUlukalala, Crown Prince of Tonga.
The birthday of the Crown Prince is an official public holiday in the Kingdom of Tonga and was observed throughout the country on 17 September 2026.
His Royal Highness was born on 17 September 1985, the eldest son of Their Majesties King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipauʻu, and is heir to the Tongan Throne.
The Crown Prince pursued higher education in Australia and holds a Master of Military and Defence Studies, awarded in 2018, and a Master of Diplomacy, awarded in 2021, from the Australian National University. His Royal Highness married Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Sinaitakala in 2012, and Their Royal Highnesses have four children: Prince Taufaʻahau Manumataongo, Princess Halaevalu Mataʻaho, Princess Nanasipauʻu and Princess Salote Mafileʻo Pilolevu.
In addition to his constitutional position as Crown Prince, His Royal Highness plays an important role in the Government of the Kingdom. He currently serves in His Majesty’s Cabinet as Minister for His Majesty’s Diplomatic Services and Minister for His Majesty’s Armed Forces, having been appointed to these ministerial portfolios on 28 January 2025.
In these responsibilities, His Royal Highness contributes directly to Tonga’s international engagement and to the service and defence of the Kingdom, while also representing Tonga at important regional and international meetings.
To mark the occasion in Portugal, the national flag of the Kingdom of Tonga was raised at the Consulate-General of the Kingdom of Tonga in Sintra in honour of His Royal Highness’s 41st birthday.
The Consulate-General also hosted a dinner to celebrate the occasion, bringing together representatives of Portuguese society, Government and the diplomatic community. The gathering provided an opportunity both to honour the Crown Prince and to celebrate the friendship and growing relations between the Kingdom of Tonga and the Portuguese Republic.
On the occasion of His Royal Highness’s 41st birthday, Comendador Anthony Bailey, Honorary Consul-General of His Majesty The King of Tonga to the Portuguese Republic, together with all at the Consulate-General of the Kingdom of Tonga in Portugal, extended their warmest congratulations and most respectful good wishes to His Royal Highness Crown Prince Tupoutoʻa ʻUlukalala.
The Consulate-General also expressed its sincere hope that, in the near future, His Royal Highness will honour Portugal with his presence, providing an important opportunity to further strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the Kingdom of Tonga and the Portuguese Republic.
