Tongan Foreign Minister holds talks with her Portuguese counterpart - Consulate General of the Kingdom of Tonga in Portugal In July 2022 the Foreign Minister and Minister of Tourism of Tonga, the Honourable Fekitamoeloa Katoa ‘Utoikamanu, paid an Official Visit to Portugal.

The Foreign Minister attended the UN Oceans Conference and held numerous bilateral meetings including one with her counterpart, HE Dr João Gomes Cravinho, Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs.

During this meeting discussions were held about the desire to increase ties between Portugal and Tonga which manifested itself with the appointment of HE Dr Pedro Rodrigues da Silva as the first Portuguese Ambassador to present his credentials to His Majesty King Tupou VI and of the decision of the Tongan Head of State to appoint the first Hon Consul General to Portugal based in Sintra.

The Foreign Minister also participated in panel discussions held within the United Nations Conference.
