The Tongan Hon Consul-General to Portugal Anthony Bailey received a prestigious travel award at a ceremony held in Lisbon on Saturday. It was also a world record breaking gathering in Portugal of more than 103 MTP – Most Traveled People UN Grandmasters from across the world.

MTP UN Grandmaster status is awarded to travellers and explorers whose visits to all 193 UN member states have been independently verified through passports, visas, airline tickets, photographs and other documentary evidence.
During this event Consul-General Anthony Bailey was formally recognised and inducted as an MTP UN Grandmaster, having actually completed his journey to all 193 UN member states with a visit to Libya in December 2023.
“Travel has never been about numbers. From a very young age, while still in single digits, I dreamed of seeing the world. Travel introduced me to an extraordinary level of diversity of people, history, politics, languages, cuisines, customs, faiths, architecture, wildlife and landscapes. The more one travels, the more the pieces of the jigsaw begin to fit together and the more I appreciated what a truly remarkable place our planet is”. Anthony Bailey said.
Mr Bailey received his recognition from the MTP – Most Traveled People founder and chairman Charles Veley and his diploma from MTP – Most Traveled People‘s  champion  Luís Amaral in Azeitão, a hour south of Lisbon.
The gathering hosted the world of true globe travellers and explorers from every continent. Naturally all of whom have visited the Kingdom of Tonga as part of their journey to visit all UN nations.
