Lisbon – 12 October 2023. The Hon Consul General of His Majesty The King of Tonga accredited to the Portuguese Republic, Mr Anthony Bailey, paid a courtesy visit on His Excellency Hamad Ali Alhazeem, Ambassador of the State of Kuwait in Portugal.
The Hon Consul General and the Ambassador recalled at the meeting held at the Kuwait Embassy in Lisbon the recent formalisation of diplomatic ties between the Kingdom of Tonga and the State of Kuwait which took place on 2 September 2021 at an official ceremony held at the Permanent Mission of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations in New York, USA.
The agreement was signed by Tonga’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Tonga to the United Nations, HE Mr Viliami Va’inga Tone and the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations, HE Mr Mansour Ayyad Al-Otaibi.
Both diplomats affirmed that Tonga and Kuwait wished to promote greater friendship and cooperation across different fields at both national and international levels.
Mr Bailey lasted visited the State of Kuwait in June 2019 having previously been active in the Kuwaiti community in Great Britain.
Ambassador Alhazeem presented credentials to the President of Portugal on 13 September 2022. Mr Bailey has being serving as Hon Consul General to Portugal since 14 November 2022.
