Lisbon – 22 February 2024. His Majesty’s Hon Consul General of the Kingdom of Tonga to Portugal, Mr Anthony Bailey, paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency Othmani Bahnini, Ambassador of His Majesty The King of Morocco accredited to the Portuguese Republic in Lisbon since 2018.
Ambassador Bahnini previously served as Deputy Head of Mission of Morocco to the United Kingdom.
The meeting took place at the Moroccan Ambassador’s Residence in Lisbon and discussions were held as to how to enhance cooperation between both kingdoms who established diplomatic relations on 16 January 1995.
Tongan Hon Consul General Anthony Bailey has a long association with Morocco dating back to 1988. Previously Anthony was elected Honorary Secretary of the British Moroccan Society in London, and was appointed a board member of the Moroccan British Society in Rabat.
In 2004 in recognition of his profession work to furthering European-Moroccan ties, Mr Bailey was awarded by His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco the honour and dignity of Commander of the Royal Order of Al Alaoui.
The Consul General last visited the Kingdom of Morocco in 2023 visiting Fés, Tetouan, Laayoune, Tangier and Chefchaouen.
