Nuku’alofa – January 2025. A new Prime Minister of Tonga has been appointed following the resignation of Siaosi Sovaleni in December 2024. Honourable Dr. ‘Aisake Valu Eke, a distinguished public servant and academic, was elected as the country’s new leader on 24 December 2024. Dr. Eke, who brings extensive experience in education, management, and national development, was officially appointed by His Majesty King Tupou VI on 22 January 2025.
Prior to his appointment, Honourable Dr. Eke held various leadership roles within Tonga’s civil service and made significant contributions to the country’s education system and governance. His appointment comes at a critical time for Tonga, as the country faces challenges in economic recovery, social development, and democratic reforms.
Honourable Dr. Eke’s leadership is expected to provide stability and guide Tonga through its current political and economic landscape. His appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter for the nation, with hopes that his vision will lead to progress and growth in the coming years.

HRH Crown Prince Tupoutoʻa ʻUlukalala: Minister for His Majesty’s Armed Forces and Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Honourable ʻUhilamoelangi Fasi: Minister for Education and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources.
Honourable Paula Piukala: Minister for Public Enterprises, Minister for Police, and Minister for Fire and Emergency Services.

The next general election in Tonga is scheduled for 18 November 2025, which will determine the composition of the Legislative Assembly and influence the selection of the next Prime Minister.
