Lisbon November 2023. The Deputy Chief of State Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Dr Jose Carlos Arsenio, received at the Palácio das Necessidades in Lisbon, the Honorary Consul General of the Kingdom of Tonga accredited to the Portuguese Republic, Mr Anthony Bailey.
The meeting took place on the occasion of the first anniversary of Mr Anthony Bailey’s appointment as the first representative of His Majesty The King of Tonga in Portugal.
The Hon Consul General briefed the Deputy Chief of Protocol of Tonga’s desire to further enhance bilateral relations between both countries.
Mr Bailey also noted that formal diplomatic established were 15 years ago on 1 November 2008 and both the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister of Tonga formally visited Portugal during 2022.
